Our Long-Range Transit Plan

This map shows the long-range transit plan for Weber County developed by the Wasatch Front Regional Council and incorporated into the WFRC Long Range Plan, adopted in December 2003.

The map shows a number of planned transit improvements:

  • The FrontRunner commuter rail (CR), scheduled to begin operation in early 2008;
  • Three proposed Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) lines...
    • from downtown Ogden to WSU and South Harrison Blvd.,
    • along Washington Blvd. from North Ogden to South Ogden,
    • from downtown Ogden southwest to Riverdale, Roy, Davis County, and Hill AFB;
  • Several high-frequency bus lines to serve outlying portions of the county.
(Except for commuter rail, all of the transit alignments shown on the map are approximate, pending more detailed study.)

After completion of the long-range plan, during 2004-05, the Wasatch Front Regional Council joined with UTA and Ogden City to undertake a more detailed study of the proposed transit improvement between downtown Ogden and South Harrison (including WSU). They chose this route first because preliminary analysis indicated that it had the largest potential ridership and greatest chance of success. The results of the study, announced in June 2005, confirmed that the ridership in this corridor could indeed be high enough to merit a major transit investment. In fact, the results showed that the corridor could support not only a relatively inexpensive BRT system, but even a more expensive electric streetcar. The streetcar was the recommended alternative, mainly because of its ability to attract additional ridership.

We hope that further work toward implementing the study's recommendation will begin soon. We also look forward to similar studies of the other recommended BRT routes in Weber County. If the streetcar from downtown to WSU is as successful as predicted, perhaps it will demonstrate that a streetcar along one or both of these routes would also be worth the additional investment.
